Cement Tile is worked into the natural coir face in gray, so the mat reads as a deliberate part of the entry rather than something functional left by the door. Coir is the fibre that actually scrapes a boot clean. It is stiff, dense and slightly abrasive, so grit comes off the sole at the door instead of travelling down the hall on the soles of shoes. That is the whole job of an entry mat and softer fabric mats do it badly. This one is woven from natural coconut husk fibre and finished with a backing that holds it flat, so it does not creep forward or ruck up when a door sweeps across it. Coir is a natural fibre and it does shed a little in the first weeks; a shake out or a pass with the vacuum settles it. Keep it under a porch, an awning or a covered entry rather than in open weather, since standing water will shorten the life of any coir mat. Shake out or vacuum to clean, spot clean with a dry brush, and do not soak or machine wash. Measures 24 x 16 inches.
