One end of this fir wood bench is a raised planter box, a 12" x 12" x 10" bed with drain holes in the bottom plates, so herbs, flowers, or a tomato start grow right beside the 40" x 10.5" slatted seat. Lift the bottom plates out and the box becomes open-bottomed for deeper root growth and better drainage. The bench seat holds two people and is rated for 660 lbs; the planter itself supports up to 45 lbs of soil and plants. Built from solid fir in its natural color, the whole unit measures 53" x 14" x 14" and weighs 12 lbs. Because the seat and box are detachable, several sets can be linked end to end to edge a patio or run along a fence line. Assembly is required, and the package includes one bench with planter box and instructions.
