Two chairs moulded from premium HDPE, chosen because it is the plastic that does not go brittle and crack after a couple of summers of ultraviolet light followed by a hard frost. Every fastener is stainless, so nothing rusts out from the inside and streaks the black finish. The frame is braced with four added crossbars, and that is what lets each 33-lb chair carry up to 330 lb without any flex when somebody drops into it or leans back mid-conversation. The seating position is worth noting: the backrest is set at a reclined angle rather than upright, which turns a dining chair into somewhere you can stay after the meal is finished, and the seat below it is contoured to support the hips and thighs rather than cut flat. It measures 19-in by 17-in and sits 17-in above the ground, with wide armrests along both sides broad enough for a whole forearm. The seat is slatted, and those gaps do two jobs: air moves underneath so nothing gets clammy on a hot day, and rain runs straight through instead of collecting in a puddle that has to be wiped off before anyone can sit down.
