Low afternoon sun defeats an ordinary beach umbrella, because the shade lands somewhere behind you. Two side panels clip on here and bring the shade back under the canopy, while also cutting the breeze and blocking the view from the next towel along. Take them off and it is a plain umbrella again, which is what you want on a calm morning.
