Two extra inches of height sounds like nothing until you are trying to fit a suitcase underneath. At 16 in tall this king frame clears standard carry-on luggage and the deeper storage boxes that a 14 in frame will not take, which in a bedroom where a king bed occupies most of the floor is the difference between having under-bed storage and only thinking you do. The frame measures 79.9 in long by 76 in wide in steel, spanning the full king width without the centre sag that timber slat bases develop. No box spring is needed, since 16 in already puts the mattress at a comfortable level for getting in and out, and a base underneath would push it higher than most people want. Static load capacity is 1100 lb, well beyond a king mattress and two sleepers, and the margin is what keeps the frame quiet when somebody turns over. The assembled frame weighs 34.4 lb, light enough for one person to carry the parts and build it, which is not true of most king bases..
