Working as furniture first, this 40 by 20 by 18 inch piece serves as a farmhouse coffee table with a cat retreat built into its side compartment, so a living room gains storage and a cat gains a den without adding a second object to the floor. Six solid rubber wood legs carry the frame and the countertop holds up to 88 lbs, enough for books, a tray and a lamp. The 26 by 20 by 11.5 inch open shelf beneath takes another 44 lbs of magazines or baskets, while the 11.5 by 18 by 11.5 inch side compartment holds a cushion for a cat or a small dog and is rated to 22 lbs. Wood grain veneer and a metal arched accent keep the look intentional. Plush fabric and sponge line the pet space, and the assembled table weighs 36 lbs. Assembly is required, and the table stands 18 inches tall at coffee table height. The side compartment opens on the end for a cat to enter directly.
