Hydraulic actuation replaces cable steering in this kit, which removes the friction and backlash that makes a cable helm heavy and vague once an engine passes about 90 horsepower. The set covers single-station single-engine boats rated to 150 horsepower and ships complete with a helm pump, a steering cylinder, a 13.5 inch wheel, two 26 foot hoses and the mounting accessories. A lock valve in the helm holds rudder position so the boat tracks straight without constant correction, and a filling port prevents excess pressure building in the circuit. The pump housing is aluminium alloy chosen to resist seawater corrosion. Hoses meet Sae 100R7 with a 20 MPa maximum working pressure. The cylinder measures 21.7 by 5.7 by 2.4 inches and includes engine attachment bolts, mounting rods, an oil drain valve and a pipe fitting. Fill with fluid and purge air before the first run.
